On: Wednesday, 11 Oct 2017
Venue: Away

Thursday 12th October saw the rearranged county round at Stanley Park and Rossall came into the fixture positive after previous results. Their first game saw them take on AKS, a team they had drawn with 0-0 two weeks before. Lot Starts broke the deadlock for Rossall in this fixture but AKS came back fighting and proved to be a stiff opponent as they searched for an equaliser. A number of penalty corners saw the pressure mount and they were able to convert after Rossall failed to clear on the second attempt. The final few minutes were tense as both sides looked to find a winner but in the end, the game finished with in a fair 1-1 draw.

Rossall then took on Kirkham and found themselves playing some much more fluid hockey. They moved the ball around at the back more effectively, creating channels in which the forwards looked to play. Jasmine Wright broke the deadline with a well taken goal from a tight angle and Luisa Schmahl doubled the lead shortly after half time with a delicate finish over the prone goalkeeper. Rossall were tight in defence and the few chances they did give up were well saved by Eleanor Garstang in goal.

In their final game, Rossall took on Stonyhurst once again. Claire Zausig and Louisa Rogerson interlinked well through the middle of the pitch and spread play effectively. Grace Gordon outletted the ball well and Rossall deservedly took the lead through Luisa Schmahl. Stonyhurst fought back well and found an equaliser from a penalty corner but Rossall bounced back well. A smart move from the back, started by Francesca Smith, saw Luisa Schmahl on the end of a beautiful through ball and able to finish well to provide what turned out to be the winner.

These results meant that for the first time in the competitions history that Rossall qualified for the North West round of the England Hockey cup as county winners.
